Press Freedom Statement: Response to the Events of Jan. 6th

Silverline Communications is an integrated marketing communications agency that regularly works with members of the media to help disseminate news and information toward niche audiences as well as the general public. As communications professionals, we monitor the news as a core component of our job and view the role of the press as a critical component to the safe keeping of our democracy. We are proud to call countless members of the media, whether current or former, friends and colleagues. Our statement on how the domestic terrorist attack of January 6, 2021 threatens freedom of the press is below:Silverline Communications stands by our colleagues and friends in the media who work diligently to create stories that shine a light on the truth to challenge the status quo. The voice of the people reflected in the press hold a mirror to our republic. As a country that embraces freedom, the mission of the media is more important now than ever before. To attack or muzzle a free press and restrain the voice of the people is an infringement on our rights as citizens of a democracy. We call on our government to defend and protect the institution of the press - now and forever. Our founding fathers knew that a free press was essential to a thriving and healthy democracy:“Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech.”— Benjamin Franklin, U.S. Founding Father“The liberty of the press is essential to the security of the state.”— John Adams, second U.S. President“Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.”— Thomas Jefferson, U.S. Founding Father“Were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter.”— Thomas Jefferson, U.S. Founding FatherOthers notable quotes:“If large numbers of people believe in freedom of speech, there will be freedom of speech, even if the law forbids it. But if public opinion is sluggish, inconvenient minorities will be persecuted, even if laws exist to protect them.”—George Orwell, author, c. 1945“Free speech is the whole thing, the whole ball game. Free speech is life itself.”—Salman Rushdie
