We are five weeks out from North America Smart Energy Week, which means over 20,000 members of the clean technology industry will be touching down in Salt Lake City to attend the industry’s biggest events.If you’ve looked at the schedule, you know its jam-packed with networking opportunities, educational sessions, informative panels and most importantly, happy hours. Figuring out what sessions to attend can be overwhelming, so we’ve asked our cleantech team to make recommendations on what sessions you can’t miss at this year’s Solar Power International.Our cleantech team combined their industry knowledge and policy expertise with trending topics on Twitter (check out our recent post here) and a thorough review on the most visited panels to create an awesome SPI 2019 schedule.Your 2019 SPI Schedule Monday, September 23

• 5:00 pm – 6:00 PM: The Role of Clean Energy in An Integrated Decarbonization Strategy
  • WHY WE LOVE IT: Aside from being the opening session which will set the tone for the remainder of the conference, this session tackles that messy topic of integrating multiple sources, process and technologies for decarbonization.

Tuesday, September 24

• 9:30 – 10:30 AM: Distribution System Infrastructure and Planning to Support Optimized Charging of Electric Vehicles
  • WHY WE LOVE IT: This panel kicks off the grid modernization track at SPI and features a robust panel of industry experts from the Smart Electric Power Alliance to Black & Veatch and National Renewable Energy Laboratory to Southern California Edison.
• 11:00 – 12:00 PM: Financing and Technical Considerations for Modeling 40 Year Operational Life
  • WHY WE LOVE IT: Because we’re clean tech nerds! Historically, standard PV module warranties lasted 25 years and have dictated the industry. As lifetime projections extend to 40 years, project owners and developers have to evolve as well. This means their communications do, too!Hear from leading industry experts from 8minute Renewable Energy, DNV GL and Soltage.
• 1:00 – 2:20 PM: Managing Risk & Uncertainty in Regulatory Proceedings
  • WHY WE LOVE IT: The policy and regulatory environment is always changing, since our HQs are in D.C., we follow it closely. There’s nothing better than hearing straight from the source and this panel is full of state legislators from Nevada and Wisconsin.
• 2:30 – 3:30 PM: Utility Scale Solar Plants of the Future: Integrating Energy Storage, Solar Trackers and Software
  • WHY WE LOVE IT: We might be a little biased on this one, but our client NEXTracker is focused on this topic. We’ve heard Alex Au speak before and he is fantastic at explaining the complexities of adding trackers, bifacial modules and advanced software and the benefits of enhancing real-world power plant performance.

Wednesday, September 25

• 9:30 – 10:30 AM: Finance Outlook: Review of 2019 and Perspective Year Ahead
  • WHY WE LOVE IT:A wise man once said, “show me the money” and that’s exactly what this panel does. Execs from solar and finance companies from across the U.S. will discuss the state of solar finance.
• 1:00 – 2:00 PM: A Tale of Two States: The Carolinas
  • WHY WE LOVE IT: We love hearing case studies and pathways to success. This panel is moderated by a government affair professional and includes insights and best practices from Duke Energy and the Clean Energy Business Alliance on the Carolinas different, but successful approaches to growing solar in each state.
• 2:30 – 4:00 PM: The Great Debate: Grid Modernization for a Clean Energy Future
  • WHY WE LOVE IT: This is one of those save-the-best-for-last sort of panels. This interactive session will explore the various competing stakeholder perspectives on grid modernization efforts taking shape across the country.
